01 / Hygiene & Dignity Initiative

PROJECT SAAF HAATH

Hygiene, dignity, and essential care.

Project Saaf Haath is a Saaf Foundation initiative focused on restoring dignity through access to hygiene and personal-care essentials.

For people experiencing homelessness, poverty, displacement, or other hardship, everyday items such as soap, toothpaste, deodorant, menstrual products, and hand sanitizer can become difficult to access.

Project Saaf Haath helps assemble and distribute hygiene kits through fundraising, community partnerships, and grassroots outreach.

02 / Clean Water Initiative

Clean Water Initiative

PARTNERING TO BRING WATER TO RURAL SINDH

Through Project Saaf Paani, Saaf Foundation supports the construction of water projects for underserved rural and desert communities in Sindh, Pakistan.

Projects are implemented in partnership with an experienced grassroots water-project team that has worked in the region since 2010. The local team identifies potential communities, inspects proposed sites, oversees construction, and verifies completed projects.

Our role is to help mobilize and direct funding toward verified projects while documenting the impact for supporters.

HOW COMMUNITIES ARE SELECTED

Before a project is approved, local field representatives inspect the area and verify that there is a genuine need for improved access to water.

Priority is given to communities where:

  • At least approximately 50 people will benefit
  • There is no reliable nearby water source
  • Families may have to travel approximately 1.5–2 km or more for water
  • Women and children currently travel significant distances to collect water
  • A centrally located project can serve multiple nearby settlements

Each location is reviewed before construction and inspected again after completion.

WATER PROJECT OPTIONS

HAND PUMP PROJECT

Typical 3-Pump Project:

PKR 90,000

Individual hand pump cost: PKR 30,000. A typical hand-pump project generally uses three pumps together.

Designed for communities closer to towns where groundwater is relatively shallow.

HALF-DESERT SOLAR WATER PROJECT

PKR 125,000

Typical location: approximately 10–30 km outside a town.

Typically includes:

  • Water boring
  • Underground piping
  • Solar-powered pumping equipment
  • Water storage tank or reservoir

DEEP-DESERT SOLAR WATER PROJECT

PKR 175,000

Designed for highly remote desert communities, sometimes more than 80 km from the nearest town.

These projects can require deeper drilling and higher transportation costs while providing critical water access to isolated communities.

PROJECT PROCESS

  1. COMMUNITY IDENTIFICATION

    Local representatives identify communities that may be in need.

  2. SITE INSPECTION

    Population, location, distance from existing water sources, and overall need are verified.

  3. PROJECT SPONSORSHIP

    Funding is allocated to an approved project.

  4. CONSTRUCTION

    Most projects are generally completed within approximately three to four months, although remote conditions can require additional time.

  5. FINAL INSPECTION

    The completed system is inspected to confirm construction and operation.

  6. IMPACT DOCUMENTATION

    Where available, photos, videos, project information, and community-impact documentation are collected for supporters.

MORE THAN WATER

Where appropriate, Project Saaf Paani and Project Saaf Haath can work together to combine improved water access with hygiene-kit distributions and basic hygiene education.

This allows Saaf Foundation’s two initiatives to address both access to water and the knowledge and supplies needed to use that access to improve everyday hygiene.
